Welcome to Japan! Students will be immersed in the beautiful art and inspiring culture of Japan, learning about both ancient art-making practices like Shibori dye, ink printmaking (think, Hokusai’s Great Wave), and calligraphy, as well as modern animation (Anime), and Japanese cartooning. We will capture the spring blossoms of the cherry trees in acrylic painting, sculpt a clay “Totoro” character from the popular Japanese film by Studio Ghibli, and include projects inspired by Japanese cuisine, too: Mochi, Boba Tea, and Sushi! Say “Kon'nichiwa” to a super fun and creative week ahead!
Learning: Art History & Culture, Anime and Kawaii Styles, Shibori Dye, Printmaking, Painting and Drawing, Color Theory, Brush Control & Blending, Shading & Values, Composition, 3D Clay Sculpture, Paper Art & Notan, Character Design, Contemporary Art
Each camper’s artwork will be collected into a personal portfolio to be taken home at the end of Art Camp, on the last day.
We will take a 20-minute break halfway through each morning, please bring your own water bottle. You’re welcome to pack a snack (mindful of nut allergies). Snacks are not provided.
If you have one, please wear your "Make For Joy" Art Camp T-Shirt.
